Project Overview

At the crossroads of Main and 2nd, between the vibrant neighbourhoods Olympic Village and lower Main Street, a client selected Formosis to propose something bold. It begins with a tight site, 50-feet wide by 122 feet deep, with an ambitious program of three floors of industrial and 26 floors of hotel. The site's location alongside a lane gives a focused frontage on East 3rd for hotel entry, and ample servicing and loading from the side and rear lanes.

Formosis' unique expertise with Mount Pleasant industrial sites and mixed industrial/residential buildings came through in the integration of three floors of industrial use at the building's base. Industrial use is a prerequisite for additional density in Metro Vancouver's Industrial Lands Strategy. The veiled design of the industrial space in the podium makes the building a good neighbour.

For 288 hotel rooms upstairs, the experience begins in a ground floor hotel lobby separated from the lower industrial floors, welcoming guests up elevators to a fifth level with a hotel reception, cafe, meeting rooms, and administration. These short-term stay hotel rooms are efficiently planned, with great views, and will be topped by a rooftop bar amenity on level 30. The proposed tower is a case study in how Formosis delivered value with a tightly integrated design for a large building, on a narrow 50-foot site.
