SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY BIOMASS FACILITY

A new Biomass Central Energy Plant (CEP) is proposed to be constructed and operated on Burnaby Mountain to supply thermal energy to SFU and UniverCity residents as part of the Neighbourhood Utility Service (NUS), currently serving customers within the UniverCity community.
The project is conceived as two separate but supporting programs; an Education Centre and a Processing Plant. The site is heavily wooded and offers beautiful views from the Education Centre facing south. The Education Centre is also conceived as a transparent box floating above the forest floor – a ‘tree house’ nestled in the woods.
Designed under previous firm Studio B Architects.
City: Burnaby, BC
Area: 20,100 sq ft
