ORIGAMI 325 WEST 4TH AVENUE

Origami, as its name suggests, evokes an aesthetic derived from the Japanese art of paper folding.

The tight, triangular shape of the site presented a number of intriguing design challenges, including the demand for the use of a car elevator, as a ramp wasn’t feasible or cost effective. The plan shape of the site is reflected many times over in the triangular forms of the building, resulting in a dramatic massing scheme that would be entirely atypical on the average rectangular site. Even the use of triangular patterns in the metal cladding evoke the folding aesthetic of this timeless art form.
